Over the past few days Brisbane has played host to an onslaught of independent hand made soft plastic toys – known as SOFUBI as part of Soft Vinyl Mayhem 2.
Curated by @badteethcomics and @derphead and hosted @lacedbrisbane , SVM2 gives Australian locals a chance to purchase highly limited figures (due to the nature of Sofubi, most designs are 1/1) from some of the best in the industry.
The first night was for viewing with sales commencing on Monday 5th of September with the prize piece of the show, by renowned Sofubi artist NAGNAGNAG available for purchase for 3 lucky raffle winners. There’s no lie that the energy and excitement seen by local up-and-coming Sofubi air brush artist @5k1nna as he won the prized NAG piece was a great example of the passion that members of this niche community show towards their favourite artists. The moment was made even sweeter by none other then Shig (NAGNAGNAG) strangling the winner in a once in a life time photo opportunity.
Overall, a very successful show from the team at SVM2 and all artists involved. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to view the efforts of all involved. SVM2 can be found above Laced Brisbane (next to Dropouts) until September 10.
