JD sports has been rapidly expanding over the last 2 decades with a huge number of acquisitions of brands and retailers. There are now hundreds of stores and it seems the UK sports giant is fixing to get a hold on the international marker.
Back in 2011 they opened the first of 25 stores in Ireland after acquiring Irish retailer Champion Sports. At this point in time you can only find JD Sports in the UK or The Emerald Isle.
Now they’re taking aim at our shores after purchasing an 80% stake in Next Athleisure which is operating over 30 fashions stores and an e-commerce channel that runs through Glue Store and Superglue Store.
This was disclosed in their half-year report and it was done through their newly incorporated subsidiary, JD Sports Fashion Holdings Australia Pty.
