This Chicago Rapper Says Projects Uploaded To Soundcloud Will Be Eligible For Grammys From 2018

According to Chance The Rapper original music projects uploaded to Soundcloud will be eligible to be nominated for a Grammy starting in 2018.

He’s been aiming to push and change the music industry since the release of his Acid Rap mixtape back in 2013. Now it seems the people in power that are responsible for gifting Grammys and Grammy nominations are listening to his calls.

Chance was nominated for 7 Grammys thanks to his work on the style-bending Colouring Book mixtape that became the first streaming-only project to receive a nomination and also the first to chart on the Billboard 200.

He took to Twitter yesterday to make the announcement, and who better to make it public than the man who has been pushing the boundaries for artists that have always connected with fans through the internet.

If this is true it will allow independent artists, free of record deals and ties to music services to receive formal critical acclaim for their work. During the age of the internet this seems like an imperative step towards musical freedom for artists and listeners alike.
